Metabolism is really all the serious chemical processes that go on in our body to keep us alive. Most of you heard of the fast and the slow metabolism. We can also think of it as being efficient or not efficient. If your metabolism is efficient, it probably means that you’ve got low body fat, high muscle mass, and you feel energetic throughout the day. If your metabolism is not efficient, you probably have more body fat, less muscle mass, and you feel tired and lethargic all day long. So, just how does exercise boost metabolism?

Strength training in particular really helps boost metabolism because it builds muscle mass. Muscle mass is live, active tissue and it takes your body a lot of work to build it and maintain it. So the more muscle mass you have the less body fat you’ve got and the more efficient and fast your metabolism will be. Aerobic training is also important. So when you combine strength training to increase overall muscle tone with some aerobic work you’ll find your metabolism is also boosted as well.
